Marketplace safety

Buy the car, not the story.

SupraList reviews listings for completeness, but it does not inspect cars, verify ownership, hold funds, or guarantee a transaction. Slow down whenever a seller or buyer creates urgency.

Before meeting

  • Ask for the complete VIN and obtain a vehicle history report from a trusted source.
  • Confirm the seller’s name matches the title or dealer documentation.
  • Compare listing photos with a live video call and ask to see specific details.
  • Keep important answers in writing through the private message relay.
  • Be skeptical of a rare car priced far below comparable vehicles.

Inspect independently

  • Meet in a safe public location during daylight when possible.
  • Hire an independent mechanic familiar with the Supra generation.
  • Inspect the VIN locations, title status, odometer history, modifications, corrosion, accident repairs, and service records.
  • For a dealer sale, review the required Buyers Guide, warranty terms, fees, and cancellation or delivery terms.

Move money carefully

  • Do not send money because someone claims another buyer is waiting.
  • Do not pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers to strangers, or payment methods that provide no recourse.
  • Use a reputable escrow or payment service for remote transactions and independently verify its website and phone number.
  • Never refund an “overpayment.” Fake-check scams can appear to clear before a bank later reverses the deposit.

Protect sellers too

  • Do not release the vehicle or signed title until funds are independently confirmed.
  • Remove personal documents and location metadata from photos.
  • Meet prospective buyers safely and bring another person when practical.
  • Report suspicious messages instead of continuing the conversation.

Report problems

Use “Report this listing” on the vehicle page for suspected fraud, duplicates, sold cars, or materially incorrect information. U.S. consumers can review guidance from the Federal Trade Commission and report fraud at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Contact local law enforcement if there is an immediate safety risk.
